About us / La Paloma Surfing Shool

We are located in La Paloma, Uruguay (South America). My sons and I run a summer surfing school (La Paloma Surfing School), along with 10 "cabañas" which we rent out all year round. Besides being a keen surfer, my older son is also a qualified lifeguard.
Our operation is situated a mere three blocks away from one of the the best point breaks in Uruguay, "Zanja Honda", a left reef wave. La Paloma is a peninsula (Cape Santa María) located on the Atlantic Ocean, 240 km from Montevideo, 70 km from Punta del Este and 140 km from the southern border with Brazil. Being a peninsula, La Paloma has excellent conditions for surfing - both learning and advanced.
We can guarantee that you will experience suitable learning conditions most days, with 2 to 3 foot waves and off shore winds. For the advanced surfer, we have excellent 5 to 7 foot point breaks and beach breaks, depending on swell and wind direction.
All this is on offer within a little town with a population of less than 5.000 people, where the beaches are within walking or biking distance. The surfing school operates from December to April in the warm weather. However, we do surf all year round, even in the winter months. We now also run a surf camp from May to November.
We are also happy to arrange surf trips to the southern breaks of Brazil (Garopaba, Florianópolis, etc) including transportation and accomodation.
We are members of the local Surfing Association (ASR) and are involved in organising and coaching local surfing championships.
Apart from surfing, we own 10 acres of land approximately 40 km inland from La Paloma where we paraglide and bird watch. Let us take you with us into the hills where we can house you in our small mountain cabin, around 300 mts above sea level and facing the fresh sea wind.
We are also able to arrange rural visits to typical "gaucho" ranches.
